Creating an overall picture of the existing situation
Purpose
This aims to:
- create a holistic picture of the existing situation
- bring to life the challenges, barriers and opportunities that currently exist

enable the organisation to understand and experience the existing situation from the perspective of other key stakeholders including customers.
Approach
In applying this approach:
- this model enables all of the results of the illuminate activity to be brought together within a single highly visual, high-impact display that enables individuals or teams to experience exactly what is going on across the organisation
- the model is based upon a number of metaphors for the organisation, for example, the organisation as a human body or the organisation as a car
- each element of the organisation, eg processes, structures, technology, customer experience, etc is brought to life individually and collectively, eg as an individual element of a body, such as the heart, and as part of the overall body

this metaphor should be agreed during frame such that those working on illuminate activity are clear about where it is all leading towards in terms of the target presentation.
Outcome
- A highly accessible, thought provoking and stimulating picture of the existing situation that will be galvanise and focus the project team in terms of understanding what needs to happen to make improvements and realise opportunities.
